Study titled "The Islamic Solidarity" published

The Information Affairs Office of Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, has published a study entitled "The Islamic Solidarity", on the occasion of the participation of H.H. President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan in the Islamic Summit conference in Mecca. The book deals with the pillars of the Islamic solidarity and the contribution of H.H. Sheikh Khalifa to enhancing the Islamic common action and to pushing forward the dialogue among the Islamic countries, according to a statement from the office. In its introduction, the book mentions that the Islamic world faces external challenges, and suffers from poverty and backwardness, which can be overcome only through hard work and devotion to the Islamic issues. It underlines the efforts of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al-Nahyan in boosting the Islamic solidarity. But it focuses on Sheikh Khalifa's efforts in consolidating solidarity among the Islamic countries through placing Arab and Islamic issues on the top of the UAE policy priorities. There is no doubt that strengthening relations among the Islamic countries, in accordance with what the Islamic religion, history and common interests dictate, is the main instrument for opening new horizons of cooperation and solidarity, and for achieving progress in the economic, social and cultural fields, the book says. The study also stresses His Highness' repeated calls for the Islamic countries to put behind their differences and open new era of relations based on frankness and compromise, so that they can face the up-coming challenges and take their right position in the new world order. It highlights the vision of the President Sheikh Khalifa on the Arab and Islamic issues which he considers as intertwined and connected with one another. The study quotes His Highness as saying "Realizing solidarity and reconciliation is the most effective way for confronting the current challenges and developments engulfing the Arab and Islamic world." The book exhibits the landmarks in the development of the Organization of the Islamic Conference since its inception in 1969 after the Al-Aqsa Mosque fire which occurred that year. It explains the goals and the principles for which the organization was established. At the top of these goals and principles, the book says, is the strengthening of solidarity among member states. It also sheds light on the administrative structure of the institution, and its various offices and branches as well as the specialized agencies affiliated to it. The book tackles all the summit conferences held by the organization, the recommendations and final statements resulting from them, and the impacts of these recommendations and decisions on the daily reality and new developments facing the organization, which cause it to seek to strengthen its cooperation with other international organizations with which it shares common goals and interests. The book states that these challenges prompt the Organization of the Islamic Conference to try to find more effective tools and mechanisms for solving the sensitive problems that face the Islamic countries and the rest of the world.
